Crypto casinos affected by Premier League gambling sponsorship ban

The Premier League has confirmed that gambling sponsors will no longer be allowed on the front of the shirts of teams taking part in the competition, affecting crypto casino sites.

Many Premier League clubs have a gambling company as their premier sponsor at the present time, with the deals said to be worth in the region of £60 million a year to them in total.

Stake, which is one of the top crypto casino sites in the world, is among the firms that will be affected by the change in regulations. Stake was announced as the new shirt sponsor of Everton last summer, though there was a large outcry from the club’s fans at the time.

Previously having been the shirt sponsor of Watford when the Hornets were competing in the Premier League, Stake and other crypto casino sites will not be permitted to have their names on the front of shirts in the competition from the year 2026.

However, clubs will still be able to secure gambling sponsors for their shirt sleeves, while the new regulations will not affect the LED advertising hoardings shown around the pitches either.

Commenting on the move, the UK Conservative government’s culture secretary Lucy Frazer posted on social media: “While the vast majority of adults enjoy gambling without harm, we can’t ignore the fact footballers are massive role models to kids. Our upcoming Gambling White Paper will upgrade punter protections & do more to protect those at risk of addiction.”

West Ham, Bournemouth, Fulham, Brentford, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Southampton all have a gambling company on the front of their shirts at the moment.

However, clubs in the Football League will not be affected by the Premier League’s announcement, which has led some people to suggest the changes do not go far enough.

Former Chelsea star Eidur Gudjohnsen believes he has lost as much as £6 million from gambling and said that the gambling sponsorship ban should have been introduced earlier.

“What is it that highlights a club? It’s the shirt sponsor,” said the ex-Iceland striker. “You have every football fan, every kid in the world, with their eyes on the shirts of our biggest clubs every single day. A shirt sponsor is a strong message. Advertising is so influential.

Everybody is affected by it because we see it on TV, on billboards, on football shirts. It’s become a part of our everyday lives. I think the ban sends out a really big, positive message.”
