Asia and Latin America target markets for crypto casinos, says exec

The boss of an up and coming crypto casino that has so far been steering clear of European countries says Asia and Latin America are top target markets for the industry.

Crypto casinos are on the rise around the world, with countries such as Thailand moving forward with plans to legalise online gambling at the moment.

The United States is also expected to have much more of a pro-crypto approach in the coming months and years after president Donald Trump returned to the White House earlier in the year.

BetHog is one of the newest crypto casinos on the market, having been Anjouan-licensed launched just a couple of months ago. According to the site’s chief executive Nigel Eccles, Europe poses more regulatory challenges so it makes sense to look elsewhere for growth.

“The EU has a tendency to regulate technologies to death before they even have a chance to succeed,” he said in an interview with Asia Gaming Brief, adding stringent regulations could have a negative impact on industry innovation and persuade operators to block EU users.

“Markets like Asia and Latin America have been ahead of the curve when it comes to crypto adoption, which makes them ideal markets for us.”

BetHog could yet move into European nations, but it is not a top priority for the crypto casino.

“We’re open to entering Western markets, but we’ll need to see a more favorable regulatory stance towards crypto for that to happen,” said the crypto casino’s chief executive.

Eccles explained what he thinks makes BetHog stand out from the crowd, with more crypto casinos launching all the time to make an already competitive marketplace even busier.

“Right now, there isn’t a lot of difference between playing casino games across 100 different crypto casinos, and we want to change that,” he said.

“The five-reel format is dominant right now, but we believe there are opportunities for new formats that could revolutionise the gaming experience.” Eccles is the founder of decentralised sports betting exchange BetDex – which is built on the Solana blockchain – as well as being the boss of the crypto casino. He clarified that they are different projects, with Eccles currently serving the BetDex site as its non-executive chairman. BetDex and BetHog have separate investors and management teams.

Eccles said: “BetDex and BetHog have distinct visions and operations. BetDex has its own direction, while BetHog is focused on creating a unique crypto-only experience.”
